End of Summer Wrap-up

Don't forget, Summer Reading Club packets are due by the end of the day on August 31 to receive your prize bag and be eligible for the Grand Prize drawing!

If you're doing the online version, make sure you've entered in all of your secret codes, missions, and reading logs to receive your online Finisher Certificate, and we'll be in touch with you soon about picking up your prize bag.  If you're doing the paper version, you can turn in your completed packet through the return slot on our front door and we'll get in touch with you about picking up your prize bag.

The Grand Prize drawing will be held later next week and you DO NOT need to be present to win this year. We'll notify winners after the drawing.

On August 31 at 6pm, we'll also be hosting Humanities WA speaker and Gonzaga professor Brian Henning. Brian will be joining us by Zoom to talk about "Heating Up: The Ethics of Climate Change." You can register for the event here or contact the library for the meeting information.

And finally, as most of you have probably heard, Kylie has been offered the job of Director at Whitman County Libraries.  I know that she is up for the challenge of overseeing 14 library branches! Her home base will be in Colfax so if you are ever driving through, stop in and say hello. Kylie's last day is August 31, but there will be a chance to say goodbye today, August 28, on the library front lawn from 4-6pm (please remember your mask). Good Luck, Kylie!

Prizes for the Grand Prize drawing next week!

Calling Siskel and Ebert!

If you’re like me, there aren’t many things better than browsing the shelves of your local library, just waiting for your new favorite read or watch to jump out and grab you. We as library staff probably understand better than most the feeling of FOMO (fear of missing out) by not being able to go on this weekly, biweekly, or monthly visit to your happy place. So while we can’t fully replace the experience of discovering new stories by reading back covers and inside flaps, we’re trying to introduce you to our new--as well as reintroduce you to our old--titles in fresh and physically distant ways.

In addition to posting pictures of new books on Facebook and Instagram and helping connect you to your next books with our “Request Your Next 5 Books” feature on the library website; we thought maybe a friendly face might help lead you to your next selection.

Every 1st and 3rd Thursday, checkout our Facebook page for a new video review on a book or movie in our library collection by yours truly. Go give one a watch and don’t be afraid to let me know in the comments if you agree (or disagree) with my review and if it encouraged (or discouraged) you from checking it out! Or recommend a title or genre for me to read or watch!

Have your own review about a library book or movie you’d like to share? Send it my way!

You may not be able to visit the library but we’re still doing our best to bring the library to you!

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream!

The Summer Library Club is almost over but there's still time to finish your reading, events, and missions!  If you haven't already, stop by our Grab & Go table to pick up a packet, print one off from our website, or sign up online.  And don't forget to tune into our online activities to get super-secret codes for extra points!

We also had a lot of fun seeing everyone while we handed out ice cream at our party yesterday (with appropriate social distancing and mask wearing, of course 😀).  Thanks to everyone who came and to the Friends of the Library for providing the ice cream!
